One of several off-shore barrier islands off Florida's western coast, Longboat Key is a scenic and luxurious town straddling Bradenton and Sarasota counties. It is a little more urban than places like Lido Key and notable for the acres of mangroves hugging the eastern shoreline with white sand beaches to the west bordering the Gulf of Mexico. 
 
The Sarasota Bay borders the island to the east. Lido Key connects directly to nearby Lido Key and St. Armands via bridges. Longboat Key is a haven for retirees, tourists, and winter residents. There are several real estate options, including luxury condominiums and single-family homes.

The Longboat Key Club is a four-star resort, and development has started on a five-star St. Regis Resort, which will see 67 condos built in three five-story towers and more than 160 hotel rooms built in a separate five-story tower.
 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Dry Dock Grill is an upscale-yet-casual bayfront neighborhood spot. With a dockside patio, fish-themed decor, and fantastic scenic views, the dining experience is great. Make sure to try the lobster tacos and the fish and chips. Lazy Lobster is the other main seafood restaurant on Longboat Key. This spacious cafe with a wood bar and patio dining serves seafood like coconut cod and stuffed shrimp. 
 
There are a couple of chic boutiques on Longboat Key, such as Exit Art and the popular clothing chain J. McLaughlin Boutique, which sells classic fashion for men and women, plus accessories. The Shore Restaurant is a fantastic modern seafood establishment, al fresco coastal eatery with excellent cocktails. Anyone looking for an authentic dockside experience will enjoy Mar Visita, a rustic cafe with a private beach and covered patio perfect for dining on oysters and crab cakes. 
 
Low-key and casual Whitney’s is perfect for a warm Saturday night spent sipping a cold beer and enjoying a fish sandwich while listening to live music.

Fourth of July is celebrated in all of its star-spangled glory in Longboat Key. Dress up your dog to join the Hot Diggity Dog Parade and participate in the Freedom Fest to celebrate this patriotic holiday.

Schools

Those who live in Siesta Key attend the schools operated by the Sarasota Public School District, which features acclaimed schools. There are also several exclusive private schools and academies.
